The end-table is now safe in the basement and that section of flooring is protected by a layer of plastic and some absorbent drop cloth.
I brought up a floor lamp that wasn't being used much in the basement to replace the table-top lamp.
Almost good as new. Execpt that this particular end table is right next to the chair where I play computer games while I eat.
Losing the end table meant not only losing the table lamp (easily replaced with a floor lamp) but losing the place where I put my meal.
That's more critical.
So this week I started building a new end table. It's a trivially simple design using white PVC pipe for the legs, so the legs are not water absorbant and can be cheaply discarded if someone baptises it. The nice wood bits will (I hope) be out of range.
Actually, I painted the legs bronze, then added a layer of glittery gold paint. It's nice and bright, but I didn't realize that glitter spray paint is the same as a blowing into a jar of glitter. I now have glitter all over my shop.
The table top is cherry with a one inch strip of maple in the center. The center strip is there so I can drill a hole through it and have the lamp come up through the center of the table.
It ended up with a little more of a distressed look than I wanted, but it's the "oops I misbuttoned my shirt" level of distress, not the "I just realized I'm doing my presentation naked" distress.
Here's the timer and table
