Between literary, music and kid stuff I was scheduled for 11 events.
I was on a couple panels about writing critique groups and finding other writers, a couple on song writing, one on writing humor, and I did a kid's thing where they decorate a dragon mask while I read a story.
One kid thought this was cool. She decorated her dragon mask, and mostly listened to my story. The other kids were playing with Legos, and couldn't be bothered.
This is one kid more than I usually see on a Sunday morning.
I was busy at the convention for a lot of hours on Friday and Saturday, with no time to come home to give Caz a walk or food. So he got two visits to the con. He was mostly well behaved, got lots of pets and scratches and was totally exhausted by the time I brought him home. I had to wake him up for meal time!
At one point, while walking down the hall a mom, dad and young girl (maybe 5 or 6 years old) came down the other way. Mom shepherded the girl to the far side, away from Caz.
I told them he was good with kids, but I'd hold him if the girl was afraid.
Mom admitted that they didn't know if she was afraid or not.
So Caz and I sat down and let her come to Caz and pet him while he sat still and accepted the somewhat tentative attention.
So, thanks to Caz, there is now one more girl who's first interaction with a big dog was not traumatic.
Kudos to Caz!
Also at the convention, I talked with two artists that might be able to do covers for me, and got word of an anthology that will be holding an open submission period in a couple months.
I'm planning on releasing a collection of Hieronymous Glyph stories. I thought I'd written enough stories in that world to make a decent small book, but when I collected them all and counted up the words I only had about 30,000 words. I really need about 70,000 words to make a reasonable sized book.
Oops. Time to write more stories in that world. At least it's a fun world to write stories in. I just need a few more ideas...
